Key Features & Typical Properties

  • One-Component Acetoxy Cure

The product is ready to use without on-site mixing. It cures by reacting with atmospheric moisture and forms a flexible silicone rubber seal.

  • Fast Surface Curing

Skin forming time ≤3 hours; full cure in 24 hours (23°C, 50% RH); extrusion rate ≥80 mL/min

The sealant develops a surface skin relatively quickly under normal temperature and humidity conditions. Full curing time depends on joint depth, temperature, humidity and the amount of sealant exposed to air.

  • Non-Sag Application

Slump ≤3 mm in vertical joints; no deformation in horizontal applications

The paste consistency supports vertical and horizontal application without excessive slumping, helping installers form cleaner and more consistent joints

  • Flexible Seal After Curing

Tensile modulus ≤0.4 MPa at 23°C

Tensile modulus ≤0.6 MPa at -20°C

Once fully cured, the sealant remains flexible and can accommodate normal movement in properly designed non-structural joints.

  • Strong Adhesion to Glass and Ceramic

The acetoxy curing system provides reliable adhesion to properly cleaned glass, glazed ceramic and other approved non-porous surfaces.

Product Advantages

  • Fast Curing for Higher Productivity:

    Efficient for Routine Glass Assembly

The one-component format, smooth extrusion and fast surface curing make the product suitable for repetitive glass fabrication and installation work.

  • Wide Adhesion & Reliable Sealing:

    Suitable for Common Non-Porous Materials

The product is primarily intended for glass, glazed ceramic, ceramic tiles, selected aluminum and other compatible non-porous surfaces.

  • Superior Weather Resistance

    Superior Weather Resistance:

Outstanding UV resistance, temperature stability, and aging resistance, providing a service life of over 20 years

  • Flexible and Water-Resistant

The cured silicone forms a flexible seal that helps prevent the passage of water, air and dust through compatible joints.

  • Multiple Standard Colors

Standard colors can include clear, white, black and gray, subject to current production availability.

  • Suitable for Bulk Distribution

The product is suitable for building material distributors, hardware wholesalers, glass processors and construction supply companies requiring regular bulk purchasing under the SEIMEDA brand.

    A

12 months in unopened packaging. Store in a cool, dry place below 27°C.

General Purpose Acetoxy Silicone Sealant is a ready-to-use, one-component RTV silicone sealant. It reacts with moisture in the air and releases a characteristic vinegar-like odor during curing. After curing, it forms a flexible and water-resistant seal on compatible non-porous materials.

Compared with neutral cure silicone sealant, acetoxy silicone usually provides faster surface curing and strong adhesion to glass and ceramic. However, its acidic curing system is not suitable for some corrosion-sensitive metals, cement-based materials, natural stone and other sensitive substrates.

The product is mainly recommended for:

  • General glass glazing
  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Glass cabinet and display case assembly
  • Window glass installation
  • Glass-to-compatible aluminum sealing
  • Ceramic and glazed tile joints
  • Compatible sanitary fixtures
  • General indoor and selected outdoor non-structural sealing

Substrate Compatibility Guide

Actual adhesion depends on surface treatment, contamination, coatings and material formulation. Test the sealant on representative production or project substrates before use.

Substrate General Suitability Recommended Action
Clear glass Recommended Clean, dry and test adhesion
Glazed ceramic Recommended Remove oil, soap and surface contamination
Ceramic tile Generally suitable Confirm surface glaze and cleaning method
Fiberglass Surface-dependent Test the specific surface finish
Aluminum Grade-dependent Carry out adhesion and corrosion testing
Powder-coated aluminum Coating-dependent Compatibility and adhesion testing required
Painted metal Coating-dependent Confirm coating stability and adhesion
uPVC Formulation-dependent Test adhesion and plasticizer migration
Non-oily wood Possible after testing Check moisture content and surface coating
Concrete and cement Not recommended Use a suitable neutral construction sealant
Marble and granite Not recommended Use a validated non-staining stone sealant
Copper and brass Not recommended Acidic curing may cause corrosion
Galvanized steel and iron Not recommended Select a compatible neutral cure sealant
PE, PP and PTFE Poor adhesion Alternative adhesive or special treatment required

Composition

General Purpose Acetoxy Silicone Sealant is formulated with silicone polymers, reinforcing fillers, acetoxy curing agents, adhesion promoters and performance additives.

During curing, the product releases acetic acid, which produces a characteristic vinegar-like odor. Adequate ventilation should be maintained during application and curing.

Acetoxy Silicone vs Neutral Silicone

Comparison Item GP Acetoxy Silicone Neutral Silicone
Curing By-Product Acetic acid Neutral curing by-products
Odor During Curing Noticeable vinegar-like odor Lower or different curing odor
Typical Surface Cure Usually relatively fast Depends on the neutral cure system and formulation
Main Substrates Glass, glazed ceramic and compatible non-porous materials Glass, aluminum, coated metal and a wider range of construction substrates
Metal Compatibility Not suitable for some corrosion-sensitive metals Generally lower corrosion risk
Typical Market Position Cost-effective general glazing and sealing Window, door and broader construction sealing
Natural Stone Not recommended Requires a validated non-staining grade and testing

Choose GP acetoxy silicone for routine glass and ceramic sealing where the substrates are compatible with acidic curing. Choose NP Neutral Silicone Sealant when sealing metals, coated construction materials or other substrates that require a non-corrosive curing system.

GP Acetoxy vs Specialized Silicone Sealants

Product Type Recommended Application Main Difference
GP Acetoxy Silicone General glass, ceramic and compatible non-porous surfaces Cost-effective acid-curing general-purpose product
Neutral Silicone Sealant Windows, doors, metal and general construction joints Non-corrosive neutral curing system
Sanitary Silicone Kitchen, bathroom and mold-prone wet-area joints Dedicated mildew-resistant performance
Structural Silicone Sealant Engineered structural glazing Designed and tested for structural bonding
Weatherproof Silicone Sealant Exterior façade and curtain wall weather joints Designed for outdoor weathering and joint movement
Aquarium Silicone Fish tanks and long-term water exposure Requires appropriate water-contact and structural suitability

Application Instructions

1. Confirm Substrate Compatibility

Check whether the substrate is suitable for acetoxy curing. Carry out adhesion and corrosion testing on aluminum, coated metal, uPVC and other uncertain materials.

2. Prepare the Surface

Remove dust, oil, grease, moisture, old sealant and loose coating. The joint must be clean, dry and stable before application.

3. Protect the Joint Edges

Use masking tape where a clean finished edge is required. Remove the tape immediately after tooling.

4. Apply Continuously

Cut the nozzle according to the required bead size. Apply the sealant continuously while ensuring full contact with both sides of the joint.

5. Tool Before Skin Formation

Finish the sealant surface before a skin forms. Correct tooling improves substrate contact, appearance and joint profile.

6. Allow Sufficient Curing

Maintain adequate ventilation during curing. Protect the joint from water, contamination and excessive movement until sufficient curing has occurred.

7. Check Deeper Joints

Do not assume that the entire bead is fully cured after 24 hours. Deep or enclosed joints require more time because moisture must penetrate into the sealant.
